Cabinet revises DPR of Kathmandu-Tarai Expressway



Kathmandu, Aug 16: The detailed project report (DPR) of the Kathmandu Terai-Madhesh Expressway (Fast-track) has been revised. Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Prakash Jwala informed that the expressway report has been revised to reduce cost and time.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Tuesday decided to amend the DPR of the Kathmandu-Tarai-Madhesh Expressway. Minister Jwala said that the DPR of the expressway has been amended so that the cost will be reduced by about Rs. 2 billion, and the construction time will also be reduced. He said, “When the tunnel was added, both the length and the price of the road decreased.”

The Kathmandu-Madhesh expressway is being constructed under the management of the Nepali Army. The construction of the Kathmandu-Tarai-Madhesh expressway, which was started on Baisakh 21, 2074 BS, has only progressed 25.54 percent so far and the target is to be completed by the end of Chaitra 2083BS.

Minister Jwala expressed his displeasure with the Nepali Army after the progress of the expressway was very weak. Minister Jwala had told the Nepali Army officers that although the expressway work should be done at a fast pace, he was not optimistic about the progress.

The total cost of the project is estimated as Rs 213 billion, after the revision, the cost of the project will be around Rs 211 billion.
