KATHMANDU, Dec 09: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the government to prosecute those behind the Morang incident and provide proper compensation to the survivor family.
The NHRC drew its attention to the killing of Rajendra Kumar Shrestha, principal of Saraswoti Primary Secondary School based in Miklajung rural municipality-1 of Morang on December 8 and urged the government to take necessary action towards that end.
In a statement issued by NHRC spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel today, the constitutional human rights watchdog body has asked the government not to arrest and impose torture against any individual on the basis of opinion, faith and suspects as well as to respect people’s right to life.
According to the press release received by the NHRC, it came to the notice that the Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist Party was involved in the murder. The NHRC has condemned the incident of such serious crimes.
The Constitution has guaranteed the people’s freedom of expression and opinion and right to life with dignity.
Every citizen is bestowed with the right to express their idea and opinion, assemble peacefully and make peaceful demonstration as well as the right to articulate criticism in a peaceful manner.
