Central level President Running Shield begins



Kathmandu, April 28: Under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and organized by the National Sports Council (NSC), the 13th Central level President’s Running Shield sports competition has started from Friday.

Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav inaugurated the tournament in a grand ceremony at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar.

Addressing the program, Vice President Yadav expressed the opinion that sports are an important means of raising the nation’s flag in the international arena and enhancing the nation’s reputation, and that sports are also an important means of world brotherhood, peace and understanding.

NSC Member-Secretary Tankalal Ghising said that the central level Presidential Running Shield competition was organized through the local level, district and state, and said that the competition was conducted from the ground up in a pyramid shape, so the importance of the competition is particularly significant in the production of athletes.

Member-Secretary Ghising announced that the 14th edition of the Presidential Running Shield competition will be conducted from Falgun 16-18, 2080 BS, after realizing the need to publish the schedule and move forward, emphasizing the production of professional athletes.

The inaugural program of the Presidential Running Shield competition was held in flood light (artificial light). It is the first time that the Presidential Running Shield has been inaugurated under artificial light. On the occasion of the inauguration, Federal MP Tejulal Chaudhary, NSC Vice President Shiva Koirala, Youth and Sports Ministry Joint Secretary Imnarayan Shrestha, representatives of various national sports associations, department heads, branch heads and others were present.

In the tournament, there will be competition in 6 sports; namely Athletics, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Karate, Ushu and Taekwondo. A total of 658 players from all seven provinces are participating for six games. There is a provision for players below 18 years of age who are studying at the secondary level can participate in the competition.

There will be competition for a total of 50 golds with equal 13-13 male/female students in athletics, 1-1 equal male/female  students in volleyball and 1-1 male/female students, 4-4 equal male/female students in Karate and 3-3 equal male/female students in Ushu and Taekwondo.
