‘Centralized mindset obstacle to deliver results’

Kathmandu, Dec 23: Chief Minister of Gandaki Surendra Raj Pandey has said that the centralized mindset of the political and administrative leadership stands as an obstacle in delivering results in line with the people’s aspirations.

At a program organized by the Federalism and Localization Center here today on ‘National Assembly in Strengthening Federalism’, he said that limited resources and legal hurdles have made it difficult to increase the effectiveness of the services provided by the provincial government.

The National Assembly, as the guardian of the provincial and local level governments, should rise above partisan interests and help accelerate the lawmaking process, especially those related to the list of exclusive and concurrent rights.

National Assembly Vice-Chairperson Bimala Subedi suggested that political parties should nominate thematic experts and experienced candidates in the upcoming National Assembly elections.

Various speakers at the programme including parliamentary committee chairs, former Constituent Assembly members, former MPs emphasized that the political leadership lacks willpower and support from the bureaucracy, women’s representation at the provincial and local levels is weak compared to the federal level, and that the National Assembly should be active in strengthening the interrelationship between the center, provinces, and local levels.

It may be noted that elections for one-third membership of the 69-member National Assembly are being held on coming January 25.#nepal #rss
