Chief Justice Shrestha stresses public trust on judiciary

Kathmandu, Oct 15: Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha asserted that it was imperative to forge a collective commitment to increase public confidence in judiciary.

Inaugurating a building of the High Court Patan on Sunday, CJ Shrestha emphasized the justice delivery process should be prompt to boost public trust on in the judicial system.

“There should be an easy access to the court for the justice seekers in addition to the physical facilities at courts,” said Shrestha, expressing his confidence that the court’s functions would be easier for the justice seekers and consumers and increase public’s confidence in the court with the use of new building. According to him, continuous efforts were underway to overhaul the court and resolve the cases pending for over two years.

The CJ shared that process to appoint Justices in vacant positions at courts of all three levels was taken forward.

On the occasion, Supreme Court’s Senior Justice Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada, Justices Sapana Malla and Dr Aanand Mohan Bhattarai, High Court Patan’s Acting Chief Justice Mahesh Sharma Poudel, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan among others had presented their respective views.

The newly inaugurated building was constructed at the cost of Rs 580 million. It has 12 court rooms, 23 rooms for Justices. Then Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha had laid a foundation stone for the building in 2016.
