Chinese national arrested on charges of gold smuggling

Kathmandu, Dec 10: Nepal Police has arrested a Chinese national in connection with smuggling of two kilograms of gold recovered from Nagadhunga last Thursday.

The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office has arrested a 27-year-old Chinese citizen, 27-year-old Chen Zhiwei, who lives in Sohrakhutte, Thamel, Kathmandu, on the charge that he was involved in transporting the gold.

Spokesperson of the office, Superintendent of Police Rabindra Regmi informed that Zhiwei was arrested on charges of involvement in gold smuggling. Last Thursday, the police recovered two kilos of gold from the gear box of the Scorpio Jeep numbered Bagmati Province-01-028 Ch 2697.

Likewise, police arrested 28-year-old Gyalchhiring Tamang, 26-year-old Biru Tamang and 19-year-old Sunil Bhujel of Rasuwa Gosainkunda Rural Municipality who were coming to Kathmandu with gold from Rasuwa.

According to police, Chen has been sent to District Area Police, Teku, Kathmandu for further investigation and prosecution.
