Kathmandu, June 16: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has detained Tirtha Raj Aryal, Director General of the Department of Passports, for questioning as part of an investigation into the passport procurement and supply process.
According to sources, Aryal was taken into custody on Tuesday and is currently being questioned over alleged irregularities related to passport supply.
As part of the investigation, a CIAA team has also collected relevant documents from the Department of Passports. A source said investigators visited the department on Monday evening and seized documents related to the procurement process.
The anti-graft body has also detained businessman Siddhartha Thapa, who is suspected of being linked to the passport procurement and supply process, and has launched an investigation into his role.
The CIAA said the investigation is ongoing, adding that the facts surrounding the case will become clear only after the inquiry is completed. #nepal
