Kathmandu, Nov 18: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested two fugitive prisoners from the Kathmandu Valley. The arrested individuals are Gita Lama of Gajuri Rural Municipality–2 in Dhading district and Mangal Narayan Mohan Maharjan of Kathmandu.
Both had escaped from the Sundhara-based Jagannath Dewal prison during the Gen-Z protests on September 9.
According to CIB Spokesperson, Lama had been imprisoned for a murder conviction and was serving a 22-year sentence handed down in 2019. Maharjan had been sentenced to one year in jail and fined Rs 10.8 million for gold smuggling.
The CIB arrested Lama from Dhobighat in Lalitpur Metropolitan City–3 and Maharjan from Dhobichaur in Kathmandu.
According to Home Ministry, more than four thousands prisoners still have been out of jails after they broke out the jail during Gen Z demonstration. The government has been repeatedly warning them to surrender and return back to their respective prison. During Gen Z protest, nearly 15,000 prisoners escaped from different jails of the country but most of them voluntarily surrendered and returned. #nepal #CIB #nepalpolice
