Kathmandu, April 25: Chairman of the NGO Federation of Nepal, Arjun Bhattarai, said time has come for the civil society organizations to keep a close watch on activities of government and the political parties.
During a street assembly and candle lighting programme organized on the occasion of the Loktantra Day (Baisakh 11) on Thursday, Chairman Bhattarai viewed the NGO Federation would launch a campaign across the country for the promotion and protection of people’s rights and freedoms.
At the programme organized at Jawalakhel in Lalitpur, he viewed the March 28 incidents occurred at Tinkune, Kathmandu was an anti-democratic spree orchestrated in the name of monarchy. The incidents are condemnable.
Such incidents are not only regressive but also hindrances to citizen’s enjoyment of democratic rights ensured by the present system, according to him. Bhattarai further viewed close observation on political activities was also needed for strengthening democracy in the country.
The NGO Federation and various other organizations also conducted an illumination in memory of those getting martyrdoms for the sake of loktantra.
