CM Acharya instructs road expansion without bothering citizens

Chet Narayan Acharya

Butwal, Nov 21: Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya has instructed the bodies concerned to carry out the road widening works on the Butwal-Gorusinge Road without causing inconvenience to the citizens.

Chief Minister Acharya issued this instruction during a meeting with World Bank (WB)’s senior transport specialist Amle Sajapakse held at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers at Deukhuri, Rapti Valley today.

“Make sure that commuters will not have to face the similar difficulties they faced while carrying out road expansion works on the Butwal-Narayanghat Road. It is necessary to keep in mind minimizing the inconvenience to the citizens while carrying out works,” he said, suggesting to carry out the road expansion works and removing the asphalt layer of the road only after completing the expansion works on both sides of the road.

The Chief Minister also suggested seeking many alternatives while carrying out road expansion works so that the road traffic would not have to be obstructed.

The expansion of the 69 kilometres long Butwal-Gorusinge section of the East-West Highway is being carried out at an investment of Rs 34 billion. The two-lane section will be expanded to four-lane roadway under this project.

This section of the highway is also connected to the Nepal-India Krishnanagar Customs via a branch road and to Dang Deukhuri, the capital of Lumbini province.

The World Bank will invest Rs 27 million 500 thousand US dollars for the road expansion project. The physical works of the project will be completed in November 2026. Works will be carried out on the 50-kilometre Butwal-Gorisinge section in the first phase. #road #nepal #rss
