Conflict victims urge PM Shah to conclude transitional justice

Balen Shah

Kathmandu, April 23: A group of conflict victims has urged Prime Minister Balendra Shah to take concrete steps to conclude Nepal’s long-pending transitional justice process.

In an open call issued by 40 organizations working with conflict victims, the group called on the prime minister to restore the credibility of the transitional justice mechanism and fulfill the state’s responsibility to ensure victims’ rights to truth, justice, and reparation.

The signatories noted that the current government, backed by a near two-thirds majority, is in a strong position to deliver justice. “We heartily congratulate you on assuming the office of Prime Minister. We firmly believe you have the ability, willpower, and moral ground to give the right direction to the transitional justice process,” the letter stated.

However, the group expressed concern that transitional justice was omitted from the government’s 100-point governance reform agenda.

Chairperson of the Common Forum of Conflict Victims, Suman Adhikari, urged the government to take effective and immediate measures to bring the long-delayed process to a conclusion. #nepal #conflict
