Construction of integrated settlement to begin

Phidim: An integrated settlement is to be developed here to provide permanent shelter for those displaced by a landslide at Yangwarak rural municipality-1 in Panchthar.

Seventeen families at Chingma and Sepi were forced out of their homes by the July 10 monsoon-triggered landslide.

According to rural municipality chair Lekhnath Ghimire, construction works for the integrated settlement would begin soon in coordination with the federal and state governments.

The local government had already begun homework to this regard. A committee coordinated by ward no 1 chair Mohan Kumar Dhungel has been formed to search for and identify an appropriate site for the project implementation.

The committee has found two alternatives. An open space right above the Chyangthap Bazar at Yangwarak rural municipality-1 or above the Narayani Secondary School, Beteni at Sangadada of ward 2 has been identified as an appropriate location to rehabilitate the affected, according to the committee.

Efforts are underway to acquire the land. “We have proposed to purchase the fifty percent land at the existing price rate and to achieve the remaining in donation, said ward chair Dhungel.

Forty one members of the displaced families are taking shelter at makeshift huts in a flat land amidst the jungle above Chingma.

Chingma and Sepi lie in remote areas.
