Consultations with political parties for Citizenship Act

KATHMANDU: A discussion was held here among stakeholders on the amendment of Nepal Citizenship Act- 2063 on Sunday.

A bill relating to the amendment of Act is currently under consideration in the federal parliament.

Present in the discussion held at the initiative of Minister of Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand were Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Uma Regmi, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Govinda Prasad Sharma (Koirala), parliamentarian Pushpa Bhusal, Attorney General Khamma Bahadur Khati and Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) Tek Narayan Pandey among others. Spokesperson at the MoHA Phadindra Mani Pokharel shared that the stakeholders dwelt on presenting the amendment bill in the ongoing session of the House of Representatives (HoR) after forging a consensus among the political parties.

No consensus has been reached on the bill yet while the government is preparing to table the bill in the ongoing HoR session.

Earlier, meetings were held with CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Janata Samajbadi Party Chairperson Upendra Yadav regarding the same issue.

Furthermore, Minister Khand had also consulted chief whips of all political parties on the same.
