Jumla, June 27: The Road Division Office in Jumla district has initiated the termination of as many as 16 long-abandoned, inactive or stagnant construction contracts along the Karnali Highway.
The move was made due to gross negligence and failure on the part of the contractors to complete the assigned work within the stipulated time.
The fresh contract termination was aimed at launching a crackdown on inactive infrastructures and putting an end to the trend of contractors securing projects without completing them, said the Office.
Towards this, the Office recently issued a 15-day public notice announcing the termination of contracts that were in limbo for an extended period despite repeated requests for the timely completion of the project.
Division Office’s Information Officer Saurabh Kumar Singh shared that these project contracts span across districts such as Kalikot, Jumla and Mugu districts.
These road projects commenced between fiscal year 2017/18 to 2025/26 but were left incomplete for years.
A total of 12 contracts were terminated in Kalikot, three in Jumla and one in Mugu, Singh informed.
Shrawan Kumar Mahatara, the Chief of Road Division Office, stated that actions were taken against those erring contractors in accordance with the public procurement laws after they failed to show any substantial progress despite repeated written and verbal reminders.
He mentioned that as per the legal provision, the terminated contractors will face further action, including blacklisting, confiscation of security deposit and advance payment.
Furthermore, he explained that 10 percent interest on advance payments will be recovered, adding that any remaining unfinished project costs will be collected as government dues.
Earlier, the Office had terminated 10 similar stalled contracts along the Karnali Highway. #nepal #rss
