Kathmandu, April 27: A police team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office has arrested Member of Parliament Maya Rai.
According to a high ranking police official from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku, MP Rai was arrested on charges of embezzling funds from the Swarna Laxmi Savings and Credit Cooperative located in Kalimati.
He informed that the Kathmandu District Court had issued an arrest warrant against MP Rai on charges of cooperative fraud and organized crime. MP Rai, along with others, is accused of misappropriating the depositors’ funds from the cooperative.
According to reports, she was in hiding situation for a long time and was absent in parliament. However, she was receiving salary and other perks from the parliament secretariat secretly. There was growing pressure on arresting Ms Rai. #cooperative #nepal
