Counting of votes of Kathmandu to begin

KATHMANDU: Preparations for the counting of votes of Kathmandu Metropolitan City have reached the final stage. An all-party meeting held on Friday night had decided to count the votes from 8 am today.

The counting of votes will be done at the office of the Returning Officer in the City Hall building. Election Officer Prem Kumar Shrestha said that the office currently distributing identity cards to the party representatives for the counting of votes.

He shared that the votes of wards 1 and 32 will be counted first to be followed by others gradually. In the election held on Friday, 63.49 percent of the votes had been cast in the Kathmandu Metropolis.

UML’s Bista wins in Loghekar Damodarkund

CPN (UML) candidate Lopsang Chompel (Raju) Bista has been elected chairperson of Loghekar Damodarkund rural municipality of Mustang district. According to the final results of the counting held at the Charang-based polling officer’s office this morning, Bista was elected Chair while Chhiring Lhamo Gurung of the same party was elected Vice-chair.

Bista got 689 votes and Vice Chair Gurung got 641 votes, according to Election Officer Nepalhari Ranabhat. Their closest rivals were Dev Bahadur Gurung of the CPN (Unified Socialist) who got 185 votes for the post of chair while Laxmi Gurung of the Nepali Congress got 225 votes for the post of vice-chair.

Likewise, Tasi Dhindu Thakuri was elected as the ward chair of ward no. 1, JIyan Tijin Gurung as chair of ward no. 3 and JIyan Chusang Gurung of ward no. 4. They are all from CPN-UML.

Out of 1,462 voters in Loghekar Damodarkund with five wards, 980 or 67.03 percent votes had been cast. Chair Bista has been elected for the second term.

Counting begins in four municipalities in Lalitpur

Counting of votes has started in four out of six municipalities of the district.

An all-party meeting is being held to begin counting in the two remaining municipalities as well, said District Election Officer Goma Dhamala Ghimire.

The counting of votes in Godavari Municipality and in Bagmati, Konjesom and Mahankal rural municipalities started last night.
The counting will start from 11 am today in Mahalakshmi Municipality.

Counting begins in Gokarneshwar

Counting of votes of local level election in Gokarneshwor Municipality has started. The counting of votes has started from Ward No. 1 of the municipality, where 800 votes have been counted, said Election Officer Ranju Gautam.

According to the preliminary results, the Nepali Congress candidate for the post of mayor and deputy mayor have taken the lead while CPN (UML) candidate is leading in the post of ward chair.

Of the total 33,989 voters in the municipality, 24,242 votes were cast, giving a 71.32 percent voter turnout.

In the polling held on Friday, 2,675 votes were cast in ward no. 1.
