Country has stepped into election environment: Minister Kharel

Kathmandu, Dec 16: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has claimed that the environment conducive for the election to the House of Representatives (HoR) member to be held on coming March 5 has been made.

In today’s discussion with the Election Commission, Minister Kharel said the election environment is gaining ground with the entire country stepping into the poll. “The Election Commission has gradually incorporated all stakeholders in the election process by developing a schedule. For discharging the role amidst sensitive and challenging times, the government is thankful to the EC”, he added.

The government has an understanding that all sides concerned are confident of timely election, he said, sharing that the EC, government, security agencies and political parties are making preparation for the election.

“Voters are also in a mood to cast their ballot. In short span, more than 800,000 voters have registered their names in the roll which in itself is historic”, Minister Kharel noted.

The political issues along with the technical, legal and other procedural things are equally important, he said, adding the government considering the issues raised by the EC has formed a dialogue committee under the leadership of Minister for Law to address the issues.

The government has made necessary arrangement to counter the effects of misinformation and disinformation through Press Council Nepal and subordinate bodies of the Ministry, Kharel said, adding the Cyber Bureau and Press Council have been requested for checking misuse of social media.

Monitoring will be undertaken to determine whether journalist code of ethics and election code of conduct are adequately maintained.#nepal #rss
