Kathmandu, Dec 28: The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has decided to submit its closed list of candidates under the proportional representation system to the Election Commission tomorrow.
According to Deputy General Secretary Lekhraj Bhattarai, the decision was made at the UML Secretariat meeting held on Sunday. He stated that the party will finalize and submit to the Commission the proportional representation candidate lists received from the districts and provinces.
Bhattarai informed that the meeting held discussions on the closed list for proportional representation presented by Party Chair KP Sharma Oli. The Election Commission has set Monday as the deadline for political parties contesting the election to submit their proportional representation closed lists.
“After discussion, the closed list presented today by Chair Oli has been approved. It has also been decided that the Chair may make necessary corrections to the list before submitting it to the Election Commission,” Bhattarai said.
During the meeting, Chair Oli noted that the government has not yet been able to ensure adequate security, stating that an environment free from fear for elections has not been created and that party leaders and cadres are still unable to reach the grassroots level safely.
According to a party leader, the names proposed include former Vice Chair Guru Baral, Secretary Padma Aryal, All Nepal Women’s Association President Tuka Hamal, former Youth Association President Niru Pal, former Chief Whip Shanta Chaudhary, and former Minister for Urban Development Manju Chaudhary.
It has been stated that following further discussion on the proposed names, the Chair will make a final decision tomorrow, after which the list will be submitted to the Election Commission. The leader added that today’s meeting endorsed the closed list prepared by Chair KP Sharma Oli along with suggestions. #nepal #uml #PR
