CPN UML’s strong comeback, Uprety, Mahto wins from Sarlahi, Dhanusa

Sarlahi: Hari Prasad Uprety of CPN (UML) has been elected to the House of Representatives, the lower house of the federal parliament, from Sarlahi constituency no 3. He defeated Narendra Saha of the CPN (Maoist Centre) by a margin of 770 votes.

The Chief Election Officer’s Office, Sarlahi said Uprety obtained 32,938 votes and his closest competitor Saha got 32,168. Similarly, Tribhuvan Singh of Janamat Party secured 5,519 votes.

The elections to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly were held simultaneously across the country on November 20.

Uprety was also elected the Member of Parliament in the parliamentary election in 2017 from this constituency.

Nembang wins by a margin of 47 votes

Basanta Kumar Nembang of the CPN (UML) has been re-elected the Member of the House of Representatives from Panchthar. He surpassed Nepali Congress candidate Bhishma Raj Aangdembe by 47 votes. Nembang garnered 32,110 votes and Aangdembe got 32,063.

Nembang was elected the HoR member from Panchthar in the parliamentary elections in 2048 BS, 2056 BS and 2074 BS before this.

Born on March 21, 1962 in Phidim of Panchthar, Nembang was appointed the Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport for 18 months in 2076 BS.

Meanwhile, Kamal Prasad Jabegu of the CPN (Unified Socialist), the common candidate of the ruling alliance, has won the Province Assembly (PA) member seat from Panchthar PA electoral constituency no 1. He secured 16,837 votes. His nearest competitor Raj Kumar Bhandari of CPN (UML) got 16,204 votes.

Similarly, Indra Kumar Angbo of CPN (Maoist Centre), the common candidate of the ruling alliance, has been elected to the Province Assembly member from Panchthar PA electoral constituency no 2. Angbo secured 15,672 votes and his closest contender Aindra Sundar Nembang of the UML got 12,605 votes. Thirty-four thousand three hundred and sixty-five votes were cast in this constituency.

Saha elected from Bara, Mainali from Bara

CPN (UML) candidate Jwala Kumari Saha has been elected to the House of Representatives, the lower house of the federal parliament, from Bara electoral constituency no 3. She secured 20,251 votes. Her nearest contender Rambabu Kumar Yadav of Janata Samajbadi Party got 17,279 votes.

Similarly, CPN (UML) candidate Achyut Mainali has been elected to the House of Representatives from Bara constituency no 1.

Mainali garnered 39,195 votes. His closest competitor Umakanta Chaudhary of the Nepali Congress got 30,056 votes. Similarly, Ganesh Dhimal of Rastriya Swatantra Party obtained 3,318 votes. Chaudhary had defeated Mainali in the general election in 2017.

Juli Mahato clinches HoR seat in Dhanusha

CPN (UML) candidate Juli Kumari Mahato has been elected the House of Representatives Member from Dhanusha electoral constituency no 3. She has won the election by a margin of 9,669 votes against the votes secured by her closest contender Anil Jha of the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, who was the common candidate of the ruling alliance.

According to the Election Office, Mahato obtained 33,355 votes and Jha has 23,686 votes.

With this, Mahato has tasted victory in the first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral system for the first time. She was picked as the MP two times before this from the proportional representation quota. She was also a federal minister.

Damodar Poudel wins from Kaski

CPN (UML) candidate Damodar Poudel (Bairagi) has won the election to the Member of House of Representatives from Kaski constituency no 3.

Poudel obtained 22,980 votes as against the 17,535 votes polled by his closest contender Ramji Prasad Baral of the CPN (Maoist Centre), the Office of the Chief Election Officer stated.

Similarly, Yog Prasad Poudel of Rastriya Swatantra Party garnered 12,180 votes, Jagat Prasad Subedi of Rastriya Prajatantra Party 2,442.

Altogether 15 candidates including those from the political parties and independents were in the election fray in this electoral constituency. Out of the total 101 thousand 715 registered voters, 61,281 votes were cast in the HoR and Province Assembly elections held on November 20.
