Curfew areas expanded in Kathmandu



Kathmandu, Sept 8: The Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO) has decided to expand the areas covered by its curfew order, which has been in effect since 12:30 pm today.

The curfew has been imposed in response to demonstrations organized by ‘Gen Z’ groups that unleashed anarchy. In the second notice issued today, the DAO specified the following additional areas now under curfew: Shital Niwas (Office of the President) The curfew has been enforced from the northeastern side of Maharajgunj area up to the Chowk at Nepal Police Training Academy.

Towards the southeast, it extends along 100 meters south from the intersection heading towards Samakhusi. In this area, it covers the route from the same intersection stretching to the Samakhusi River.

Harit Griha/Green House Area (Office of the Vice President), Lainchaur The curfew covers the places from Keshar Mahal Chowk to the Lainchaur Chowk. It extends up to the boundary of Hotel Malla.

Narayanhiti Palace Museum The curfew includes the area from Keshar Mahal Chowk to the south gate of the Narayanhiti Palace Museum and extends to Jai Nepal Hall Chowk and from the south gate of the Museum up to the Mahendra Statue.

Singha Durbar The prohibitory order is in effect in the areas surrounding the Singha Durbar. It is enforced from the eastern corner of the Bhadrakali Temple (Tinkune Island) eastward to the main entrance to the Singha Durbar, and from the main entrance of Singha Durbar northward to the intersection near the Padmodaya Secondary School.

Similarly the curfew is in effect from the Padmodaya Chowk eastward stretching to the northeastern mode of Singha Durbar via the Office of the Auditor General heading towards Anamnagar; from the northeastern corner through the eastern gate of the Singha Durbar connecting to Hanumansthan Temple; and from in front of the main entrance of Singha Durbar southward going along the street to the Supreme Court, reaching the Department of Archaeology.

The curfew remains in force until 10:00 pm today. It has been imposed under Clause 6 (A) of the Local Administration Act, 2028 BS.

During the curfew period, all movements, gatherings, demonstrations, rallies, meetings, and picketing are strictly prohibited within the specified areas.#nepal #Curfew areas #rss
