Dahal’s last rites performed with State honours



Kathmandu, July 12: Last rites of Sita Dahal, the CPN (Maoist Centre) leader and spouse of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ were performed today at Pashupati Aryaghat in Kathmandu with State honours.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers today had made arrangements for according State honours to late Dahal according to which a contingent of Nepali Army offered a guard of honour to her.

The national flag of Nepal was draped over the mortal remains of Sita Dahal as a final tribute. Prime Minister Dahal lit her funeral pyre. Late Dahal’s daughters Renu Dahal and Ganga Dahal also joined their father in the last rites rituals of their mother.

Prior to that Dahal’s mortal remains were kept at the party central office at Parisdanda of Koteshwor for paying tributes to her. Then it was taken to the Aryaghat.

Dahal passed away amidst the treatment for complications from Parkinson’s at the Norvic International Hospital at Thapathali in Kathmandu today morning. She was 69.

Present at the Aryaghat to pay tributes to the late Sita Dahal were Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal among other high-ranking leaders.

In attendance in the final rites of the late Dahal were ministers, government officials, CPN (Maoist Centre)’s leaders and cadres as well as well- wishers in a significant number.
