Death toll from floods and landslides triggered recently rains has reached 33 in the Karnali Province.
According to the Province Police Office Karnali, natural disaster has so far taken the lives of 33 people across the province. Spokesperson of Karnali Province Police Office and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Madhav Prasad Shrestha shared that Jumla witnessed death of nine people which is the highest in the province.
He shared that Mugu saw the death of eight people followed by Kalikot and Humla four each and Jajarkot three. The natural disaster took lives of two people each in Dolpa and Salyan while one died in Dailekh.
The police source said there was no human casualty in Surkhet and Rukum (West). At least 22 people are still missing and their search is underway, spokesperson Shrestha shared.
Kalikot has the highest number of disappearance with 20 people including one police personnel. Two people have gone missing in Jumla and one in Dailekh.
The official data showed that 21 people were injured in the floods and landslides across the province. The injured are undergoing treatment in various hospitals, police shared.
The incessant rain has displaced 480 households in the province. Dolakha saw the highest number of people displaced with 103 households while Mugu recorded 178 households displaced, Jumla 86, Kalikot 48, Humla 40, Salyan nine and Surkhet eight.
Four households were displaced in Dolpa whereas Jajarkot and Rukum Western saw two households each displaced due to floods and landslides.
Rescue and relief operation has been put in place in by mobilizing security forces in the disaster-hit areas, spokesperson Shrestha said.
Helicopter is being mobilized to air lift the critically injured for treatment, he informed.RSS
