KATHMANDU: Former King Gyanendra Shah has said that democracy is not only a periodic elections and a governing system of particular party leaders, but also a social way of life.

Giving a message of good wishes on the occasion of the 71st National Democracy Day, the former King Gyanendra has made it clear that the soul of democracy will remain intact only in the happiness achieved by every citizen.

In the message, he said, “Nepal has remained firm by the consensus of the people and the king and its existence can only be protected by consensus. However, the discrimanatory practices have been creating further chaos in the country.”

Former King Shah has further said, “How much have we been able to enhance the prestige of the nation? We all need to self-evaluate by taking the sacred soil of the motherland.”

“Democracy is the best law and order of modern governance. We all aspire to move forward in accordance with the principles of universal democracy,” he said, “Even after the restoration of democracy passed 70 years, we still are fighting for the democracy, debate and conflict.”

He said that manpower and people’s consent is a special aspect in a democracy and the faith, desire and sentiment of the people will remain indelible in the end and by trying to eradicate it, it will not be eradicated.
