Dr Mahat praises govt. policy and programmes while opposition leaders criticize it

Kathmandu, May 2: Nepali Congress Spokesperson and former finance minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat termed the government’s policy and programmes as outstanding document.

Talking to the media after the presentation of government’s policy and programmes for the fiscal year 2025/26 by President Ramchandra Paudel at the federal parliament on Friday, Dr Mahat said the policy and programmes should have moved one step ahead from the traditional one but added that it is good in nutshell though it lacked something.

Mainly, the policy and programmes depend on its implementation. It depends on the guidelines of the budget,” Dr Mahat argued. He stated that the budget of the upcoming fiscal year should categorically mention about providing assistance in agriculture on the basis of production and added that serious attention should be laid for enhancing quality of education.

However, economist and Vice-Chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Dr Swarnim Wagle said there is nothing new in the government’s policy and programmes adding that it was just a continuation of the past. Dr Wagle stated that land bank announced in the government’s policy and programmes was an unsuccessful programme of the past.
Likewise, main opposition CPN (Maoist Centre) has stated that the government’s policy and programmes lacks newness.

Talking to RSS, the CPN (Maoist Centre) Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota said, “There is nothing newness in policy and programmes. It cannot generate hope among general people since it has come traditionally. It is traditional and regressive and has no clear prospects for future, Spokesperson Sapkota added.

Similarly, former Prime Minister and Chairman of Nepal Samajwadi Party (Naya Shakti) Dr Baburam Bhattarai said the government’s policy and programmes has everything but is in a traditional trend. He stated that it lacks the announcement for good governance and quality changes in economic sector.#nepal #political #rss
