Dhading, Feb 23: A passenger trapped inside the wreckage of a bus following a fatal accident at Charaudi in Dhading was rescued alive after five hours on Monday.
Krishna Raj Manandhar of Imadol, Lalitpur, was pulled out from the mangled remains of the bus (Ga 2 Kha 1421), which was en route to Kathmandu from Pokhara when it crashed at Charaudi of Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-5 along the Prithvi Highway arount 1.30 am of Monday.
According to Superintendent of Police Sumit Khadka, rescue personnel had to cut through parts of the bus, including the silencer and rear section, to free Manandhar, who had been trapped inside the wreckage.
“We had no proper tools and equipment to immediately remove the trapped passengers who were crying out for help. We could only console them,” Khadka said, adding that a shortage of essential rescue equipment significantly delayed the operation.
Manandhar was later sent to Kathmandu for further treatment. Police said he appeared to be in normal condition following the rescue.
The accident claimed the lives of 17 passengers on the spot, while another died during treatment. Twenty-six injured passengers are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals. #nepal #accident rrs
