DRRMNC directs bodies concerned to swing into action to control forest fires



Kathmandu, April 8: The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management National Council (DRRMNC) has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Forests and Environment, the provincial governments and the local levels to intensify prevention and control of forest fire in view of the increased level of air pollution due to this.

The 17th Meeting of the Council, chaired by Prime Minister and its Chair KP Sharma Oli, on Monday also reviewed the status of implementation of the West Nepal Earthquake and Monsoon-induced Disaster Post-Disaster Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Plan, 2081 BS.

The Meeting was briefed about the implementation status of this post-disaster reconstruction and rehabilitation plan which was approved by the 16th Meeting of the Council held on January 12, 2025. After the approval of the plan, the reconstruction work was started following the initiation of the agreement process with the beneficiaries from February 15, 2025.

The DRRMNC 17th Meeting has also decided to incorporate the proposal received for reconstruction of the structures that were missing in the plan on the basis of need and priority after a realistic review from the concerned ministry.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has included road and transport, government buildings and urban infrastructure, electricity, alternative energy and irrigation, private housing, educational infrastructure, health infrastructure, drinking water and sanitation and archaeological structures as the priority areas for reconstruction and rehabilitation.

Prime Minister Oli on the occasion stressed on the need for the NDRRMA to speed up the reconstruction and rehabilitation works. He directed the Ministry of Home Affairs and security agencies to make necessary preparations for rescue and relief during the disaster.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, ministers, chief ministers of various provinces, Deputy General Secretary of CPN (Maoist Centre) Shakti Bahadur Basnet, Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal, Chief of the Army Staff and chiefs of security agencies, among other officials, were present in the meeting.#nepal #DRRMNC #rss
