Kathmandu, June 12: The Ministry of Education and Sports has formed a three-member committee to investigate alleged employee involvement in the irregular recommendation of study visas.
The committee, coordinated by Ministry Joint Secretary Chandra Kant Bhusal, will probe the role of employees in preparing letters and documents used for study visa recommendations. Undersecretary (Law) Gopi Krishna Regmi and Section Officer Gunaraj Bhattarai are the other members of the panel. The committee has been given seven days to submit its report and will examine weaknesses in document verification and processing at the staff level.
The investigation was prompted after study documents recommended under the name of Valmiki Vidyapeeth were found to be fraudulent. The Ministry has since directed its subordinate offices to halt further processing of recommendations made to foreign nationals in relation to visa grants.
The Ministry stated that study visas are linked to the credibility of the entire system and warned that further administrative and legal action would follow based on the committee’s findings. It had earlier written to the Home Ministry requesting a broader investigation into the use of suspicious documents and fake bills. #nepal
