Education Ministry requests EC to provide details of party committee members

Kathmandu, April 25: The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has requested the Election Commission to provide details of the executive committee of political parties to facilitate action against teachers with party affiliations.

According to the Ministry, it has been decided to write to the Election Commission requesting for the details of all the officials in the executive committees of the political parties at the central, state and district levels.

The Secretariat of the Minister of Education, Science and Technology Sumana Shrestha has informed that the details of the party’s working committee in the Commission’s records have been requested in order to confirm the details of the complaints about teachers with party affiliation.

After receiving the details from the Election Commission, the secretariat said that the ministry will look at the details of the teachers, employees and the officials of the executive committee of the political parties.

Minister Shrestha has been warning that if teachers and employees of government education system are found sitting in the executive committee of any political party, they will be removed from their positions according to the Education Act.

According to the secretariat, complaints and grievances have been received in the ministry regarding issues such as teachers and staff working in public schools, being members of various political parties, in the executive committee, convention representatives.

Minister Shrestha had discussed with the Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya and sought the help of the Election Commission to implement the decision.

The ministry has already informed that all education development and coordination units in the district have already sent a letter to take action against the teachers/employees who are members of the political party’s executive committee. It is said that some district units have already taken action according to the correspondence.

Based on prevailing laws and court orders, it has been decided at the ministerial level to remove the teachers in the party’s executive committee from their positions and inform the ministry about it, and to take continuous action in relation to further complaints of similar nature. #nepal
