Eight-point agreement reached with Ganesh Nepali’s family



Kathmandu, July 12: An eight-point agreement has been reached between the family of late Ganesh Nepali, the Government and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Nepali died last Friday of self-immolation in front of the Department of Passports following an argument with KMC police over traffic violation penalty.

After 14 hours of talks at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, an eight-point agreement was reached between the three sides at 5:00 pm today.

The agreement was reached after a dialogue held with the victim’s side in the presence of Kathmandu Chief District Officer Ishwor Raj Poudel and Kathmandu Metropolitan City Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain. Following the agreement, the victim’s side has agreed to proceed with the autopsy process and cremation.

As per the agreement, the Government will form an independent investigation committee under the coordination of a former judge as soon as possible to conduct a fair investigation into the incident. The committee will submit its report to the government within seven days of its formation.

Likewise, the Government will proceed with the necessary decision-making process regarding declaring the late Ganesh Nepali a martyr based on the prevailing law, past practice, and the report and recommendations of the investigation committee to be formed.

In addition, the District Administration Office, Kathmandu will write to the KMC to suspend the Metropolitan Police Force employees, who were deployed at the frontline of the incident on the day the incident occurred, and will later take action as per the report and recommendation of the investigation commission.

As per the decision of the upcoming executive meeting of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, employment will be ensured to the deceased’s wife Ekamaya Nepali based on her qualification and capabilities.

In addition, KMC will make necessary arrangements for the education of late Nepali’s daughter, while the concerned government body will provide necessary facilitation for this work.

The KMC will also provide appropriate amount of relief to the dependent family of the deceased by taking a decision from the upcoming executive meeting.

Similarly, it has been agreed that KMC will make all the necessary arrangements for the last rites of the deceased and the necessary management of the cremation in Kathmandu.

Furthermore, the victim’s family and relatives have taken the responsibility of receiving the body of the deceased, conducting the postmortem examination, and providing full support and facilitation in the legal process.

The agreement states that the Kathmandu Metropolitan City will bear the transportation expenses of the deceased’s immediate family members and all expenses incurred during their stay in Kathmandu during the period of the cremation. #nepal #rss
