Kathmandu, Dec 7: With 88 days remaining until the House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5, 2026, the Election Commission (EC) of Nepal has intensified its preparations. Political parties have also accelerated their internal processes in anticipation of the upcoming polls.

The EC has begun implementing programs related to the proportional electoral system from today. As announced earlier, political parties wishing to participate under the proportional representation (PR) system must submit their applications today between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.

The Commission will publish the list of political parties that have submitted applications for the PR system on December 10. Parties are required to submit their closed lists of PR candidates on December 28 and 29.

Likewise, the final list of PR candidates will be published on February 13, 2026, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, according to the EC.

Of the 275 members of the House of Representatives, 110 are elected through the proportional representation system as mandated by the Constitution of Nepal.

Under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral system, nomination papers will be filed at the Office of the Returning Officer from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on January 20, 2026, with the candidate list published the same day. The final list of FPTP candidates will be published from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on January 23, after which election symbols will be distributed to the candidates.
