Election Countdown – 90 days to go: EC fully prepared, says officiating CEC Bhandari

Kathmandu, Dec 6: Officiating Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of Nepal, Ram Prasad Bhandari, has stated that the Commission is fully prepared for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026.

Speaking to the National News Agency (RSS), with 90 days remaining until Election Day, Commissioner Bhandari said that the Government of Nepal has made all necessary arrangements as requested by the Commission. He added that the election environment has further strengthened with the publication of the election timetable and programme, and that preparations are progressing accordingly.

Bhandari informed that during the all-party meeting convened on Friday by Prime Minister Sushila Karki—which included political parties, relevant ministers, and heads of security agencies—the Commission made it clear that it is ready to conduct the election.

“We had some budgetary shortfalls. The Ministry of Finance has already committed to releasing additional funds on the basis of requirement or expenditure. We will now move ahead with the regular programme. We have communicated this clearly to the Government, political parties, and security agencies,” Bhandari said.

The Election Commission has sought a budget of approximately Rs 7 billion, of which the Ministry of Finance has already secured Rs 5.96 billion.

As of November 30, a total of 120 political parties intending to participate in the upcoming election have submitted their applications to the Commission. #nepal #election
