Lalitpur, Dec 18: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has shared that the government is making necessary preparation from its end for conducting the elections in the announced date.
In his address to the inaugural session of the ‘Gorkhapatra Discourse’ hosted by the Gorkhapatra Corporation here today, he stressed the need to make the House of Representatives (HoR) elections slated for coming March 5, 2026 as a festival.
Minister Kharel, also the government’s spokesperson, said, “The government is doing its groundwork to enable environment for successfully holding the election. The country has stepped into the election bid. With this, the election will be turned to be a festival”.
The Minister informed that the government has made arrangement for resources and human capital for the election.
“Besides government, the Election Commission has also stepped up its preparatory actions from its side. Almost all political parties have dedicated their activities for elections,” the government spokesperson added.
The government founded on the base of the Gen Z movement is active to carry out its mandate including checking corruption, maintaining good governance and conducting the elections.
More than 30 corruption cases have reached to the court in last three months, Minister Kharel said, clarifying that the situation has come to an end where cases are not advanced on influence and pressure.
“We have helped the anti-graft agencies move ahead in an independent manner,” Minister Kharel shared on the occasion.
Government to adopt Discourse’s decisions
Communications and Information Technology Minister Kharel expressed the commitment that the government and the related entities will adopt the conclusions received from the Gorkhapatra Discourse.
He said, “This discourse will play an important role in moving the country towards progress and economic prosperity in the context of reconstruction and development after the Gen Z movement.”
He mentioned that Gorkhapatra’s discourse has proved the extent to which the ‘media’ can play a role in nation-building in Nepal.
“Media does not only disseminate information and educates, it also creates discourse. It provides training for development, and according to the standards established by the Gorkhapatra Corporation, media has a role not just as media but it also has a role in nation-building,” he said.
Affiliation with the Social Security Fund
Journalists and employees of the state-run media house Gorkhapatra Corporation are affiliated with the Social Security Fund. On the occasion, Minister Kharel distributed the SSF membership identity cards to the Gorkhapatra staff.
He expressed happiness that the day after he took charge of the ministry, he decided to include state-run media in the Social Security Fund and that Gorkhapatra implemented it right from the beginning.
“I would like to thank the Gorkhapatra Corporation for being the first state-run media to support the government’s campaign to start affiliation with the Social Security Fund.”
The Corporation has stated that it will enroll 180 employees and journalists in social security.Minister Kharel informed that the Organisation and Management Survey Report, which had been pending for years, has been approved.
He expressed the confidence that Gorkhapatra will now become more professional, more competitive, and more in tune with the times in the Nepali mass media.
“Gorkhapatra must now move forward at speed on the digital highway. Now all outlets must advance on the digital highway. Henceforth, they must be visible on mobile and digital platforms,” the Communications Minister insisted.#nepal #rss
