Election fever, leaders in villages

Election mass meeting

Election Commentary

The November 20 general election has stood in Nepali’s doorstep. Only 12 days left for the crucial election that will decide for the five year term of House of Representatives. It will open up for the election of other high level officials, including President, Vice President as well as the formation of new government.

So, most of the top leaders have been flexing their muscle to woo the voters in their favour. The oldest and main political force of the country, Nepali Congress, main opposition CPN UML and CPN Maoist Center have vowed to control the House of Representatives and form the government after the election. For that purpose, Nepali Congress, CPN Maoist Center, CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janamorcha have formed an alliance. The leaders of ruling alliance have repeatedly claimed that they have enough chances of getting majority in the upcoming parliament. They tend to criticize CPN UML leadership of breaking the rule of law of the country. The ruling alliance have tried to assure people freedom, development as guaranteed by the Constitution.

However, the ruling alliance looks suspicious to challenge CPN UML single-handedly. Chairman KP Sharma Oli has already proved a charismatic and versatile leadership, and proved popular across the country. He has put forwarded many ambitious projects on road, railway and other infrastructure and social protection activities. Chairman Oli has started his election campaign from Darchula, a far west of the country.

But, it must be realised that people found indifferent in this election. Many have questioned the performance of parties and their leaders. Corruption, nepotism have marred the country’s development. Party candidates have not dared to visit people’s doorstep. Even people showed no interest of their election manifesto. In such a scenario, many have been trying to cast their votes to individual candidates. So, the result may be slightly different this time as well.
