Election symbols awarded, Balen gets Stick

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has allocated election symbols to the candidates of May 13 local level election on Saturday.

The election symbols were awarded to the party candidates after completing investigation and other process as withdrawal of candidacies. Six nationally recognized parties’ candidates and independent candidates were provided the symbols by the election officer’s officer from respective local levels.

The central information system of EC has already got inputs on final list of candidates and details on election symbols.

The candidates of the nationally recognized six political parties got the symbols- ‘Tree’ to Nepali Congress, ‘Sun’ to CPN UML, ‘Sickle and Hammer Cross’ to CPN Maoist Centre, ‘Umbrella’ to Janata Samajbadi Party, ‘Bicycle’ to Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, and ‘Pen’ to Unified Socialist Party. Among 79 political parties registered at EC, 66 fielded candidacies for the election.

EC has decided to provide other symbols from the set of independent symbol category to the independent candidates.

Likewise, the Election Commission has awarded Stick to the mayoral independent candidate of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mr Balen Shah.
