Kathmandu, July 16: Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has said the government is committed to strengthening its partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) by aligning development assistance with Nepal’s evolving national priorities and development needs.
Speaking at a programme marking the 60th anniversary of Nepal–UNDP cooperation in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Dr. Wagle praised the UNDP’s longstanding contribution to Nepal’s socio-economic development.
He said the UNDP has played a significant role in poverty reduction, reducing inequality, promoting sustainable development, and supporting the health and education sectors over the past six decades.
“UNDP’s contributions to alleviating poverty, reducing inequality, advancing sustainable development, and improving the health and education sectors have been significant,” Dr. Wagle said. “I hope this partnership, which has now reached 60 years, will continue for a century.”
The finance minister said Nepal’s cooperation with the UNDP has extended beyond financial assistance, serving as an important platform for international partnership, coordination and development cooperation.
He also acknowledged the UNDP’s contributions in key areas such as environmental conservation, democratic governance, youth empowerment and digital transformation, describing them as important to Nepal’s long-term development.
On the occasion, Dr. Wagle launched a commemorative photo book titled “60 Years of Collaboration,” which documents the major initiatives and achievements of the UNDP’s development programmes in Nepal over the past six decades.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that future development cooperation is better aligned with Nepal’s national priorities and contributes effectively to the country’s sustainable development goals. #nepal
