Fly Dubai engine caught fire, Plane safe and heading it’s destination: Minister Kirati

Kathmandu, April 24: An engine of the Fly Dubai airplane from Kathmandu to Dubai failed (caught fire and loud noise emerged) but did not land in Kathmandu.

According to sources at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), the pilot of the plane informed the air traffic controller that there was a problem in the right engine. However, they didn’t request for emergency landing at Tribhuvan International Airport.

“It seems that they are trying to go to the destination, but the pilot has not said to land even if there was a problem”, said an officer, “The pilot has said we will continue.”

According to that official, the pilot can land the plane in India. “Pilots can’t take the risk of flying to Dubai, they may have taken that decision because of the ease with the facilities for repairs in India,” the official added.

Meanwhile, Minister for Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati has also informed that the plane was heading to it’s destination safely. He has requested all not to be panicked.

People in Kathmandu heard a loud noise at around 9.16 pm. Some people took video and have shared in social media. In the video, a large flame can be observed easily. And, a debate have started in social media why Fly Dubai pilot took such a risky decision.

The TIA was diverting and holding other planes after receiving emergency call from the Fly Dubai. Emergency services were activated at TIA as well.
