FNCCI President Chandra Dhakal urges NRNs to invest in Nepal

Chandra Prasad Dhakal

Kathmandu, March 14: President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has called on Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) to confidently invest in Nepal, stating that the country now offers improved political stability and a more favorable investment environment.

Addressing the 12th Annual General Meeting of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Dhakal encouraged NRNs to invest in key sectors such as hydropower, tourism and information technology.

Referring to global crises including the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing conflicts in different parts of the world, he said that people living abroad ultimately view their homeland as their primary destination and long-term priority.

Dhakal acknowledged that some NRNs had faced difficulties in the past due to unreliable partners or investments in unsuitable projects. However, he emphasized that such cases were exceptions rather than the norm.

He also said FNCCI has already moved forward with a project in collaboration with the NRN Investment Company—the first company registered in Nepal specifically for NRN investment—highlighting the importance of institutional investment.

According to Dhakal, the country now has a stable government, providing the political stability sought by the private sector and NRN investors. He added that the government has formed a High-Level Economic Reform Commission at the initiative of FNCCI and is working to amend several laws to attract both domestic and foreign direct investment.

Dhakal further noted that to counter the perception that Nepal lacks capital and opportunities, major business organizations including FNCCI, the Confederation of Nepalese Industries, the Nepal Chamber of Commerce and NRNA have jointly launched a Rs 10 billion initiative through the establishment of Nepal Development Public Limited (NDP). #nepal #NRNs #invest
