Former Joint Secretary Sharma found guilty on corruption case

Kathmandu, June 1: The Special Court has convicted three people including Joint Secretary Chudamani Sharma in the corruption case.

The court has also convicted the then Chairman of Tax Commission Lumbhadwaj Mahat and member Umesh Prasad Dhakal.

The Commission on Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a corruption case in Special Court against three people including Sharma, demanding a fine of Rs 1.33 billion.  However, the Court acquitted all three including Sharma in the case of illegal property acquisition.

In the year 2071 BS, the then Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat had formed the Tax Commission which has mishandled the tax related matters and the state had to incur huge loss.
