Four people died and 30 others were injured when a bus fell off a bridge in Sarlahi along the East-West Highway this afternoon.
The bus (Na 4 Kha 8555) en route to Janakpur from Birgunj fell from the bridge over the Phuljor river connecting the Lalbandi and Ishworpur municipalities. It is said the driver lost control over the vehicle following a sudden explosion of the bus front tyre and it led to the accident.
Sarlahi police spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhav Prasad Budhathoki said investigation was underway.
The bus driver is among those hurt in the accident. The injured are undergoing treatment in Lalbandi, Nawalpur and Hariwan. Until the filing of this report, preparations were going on to send severely injured to health facilities outside Lalbandi.
The dead bodies have been brought to the Provincial Hospital, Malangawa for post-mortem examinations. Police said they are trying to identify the dead and the injured.
