Global IME Bank, Tilganga Eye Institute partner for free cataract surgeries

Kathmandu, March 24: Global IME Bank and Tilganga Eye Institute, one of the premier institute in Nepal, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to identify and provide free cataract surgeries to economically disadvantaged, senior citizens, and underprivileged communities.

The agreement was signed at the bank’s corporate office in Kamaladi in the presence of Chandra Prasad Dhakal, Chairman of Global IME Bank and renowned eye specialist Dr Sanduk Ruit, Founder and Executive Director of Tilganga.

The MoU was formally signed by the bank’s CEO Surendra Raj Regmi and Tilganga’s CEO Dr Rita Gurung.

Under the agreement, Tilganga will conduct free cataract screening and surgeries at seven locations across all seven provinces, with financial support from Global IME Bank. In addition, the program will include eye check-ups for students from underprivileged backgrounds, along with free distribution of spectacles where needed.

Speaking at the event, Dhakal reiterated the bank’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, stating that it has consistently reinvested a portion of its profits into community-focused initiatives across Nepal.

Dr. Ruit highlighted that the collaboration presents both opportunities and challenges but assured that the partnership would be implemented sustainably with a strong emphasis on transparency and efficient management.

CEO Regmi expressed confidence that the partnership between Nepal’s largest commercial bank and a leading eye care institution would further strengthen social impact initiatives, with plans to expand such programs in the future.

Established in 1992, Tilganga Eye Institute has been providing world-class eye care services, including intraocular lens production, research, education, and community outreach programs both in Nepal and internationally. #nepal #cataract
