Good governance and elections are government’s top priorities: PM Karki

Lalitpur, Dec 17: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the government is currently focused on implementing its two principal agendas: ensuring good governance and successfully conducting elections.

Addressing the 107th establishment day of Lalitpur Metropolitan City on Tuesday, the Prime Minister stated that the government is working round the clock to prepare for the House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5, 2026. She noted that the election preparations are being carried out in the context of the special situation that emerged following the September 8–9 Gen Z movement.

“We are keen to hand over executive authority to a new government formed in accordance with the mandate expressed through the election,” Prime Minister Karki said. “I urge all concerned to contribute from their respective positions to ensure that the election is held in a free, fair, impartial and cost-effective manner. Elections are the only constitutional means to move the nation forward on the path of democratic values and good governance.”

Emphasizing that anarchic activities must not be allowed to take root in society, the Prime Minister said the security agencies are capable and proactive in taking action against those who threaten peace and security or engage in criminal activities.

She also highlighted the importance of community participation in safeguarding social harmony. “The role of society is equally vital in resisting disruptive forces. Let us work together to build a nation founded on peace and good governance,” she said.

On the occasion, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan called for the support of Gen Z groups to ensure the successful conduct of the upcoming elections. Deputy Mayor Manjali Shakya Bajracharya, meanwhile, recalled the contributions of people from various walks of life in bringing the metropolis to its current stature.

Rato Bangala School and Nira Rajyalaxmi Rana, recognized as the highest taxpayers of the metropolis, were also honoured during the programme. #nepal #karki #lalitpur #patan
