
Kathmandu, March 2: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said the government would take a stern action regarding the death of 17-year-old girl at Nawarajpur rural municipality in Siraha.
In his address to a session of the National Assembly (NA) today, the Minister said all the responsible for the incident will be searched and prosecuted. The girl identified as Rinku Kumari Sada allegedly committed suicide after she was gang raped by three locals.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring justice to the victims. He apprised the House that the girl was found hanging in her house on February 12 and an FIR was registered against a 19-year old male for abetting the incident. Later on February 20, the girl’s mother registered an FIR against eight people, stating that she was gang raped and murdered and village council attempted to settle the case internally.
In his reply regarding the concerns over challenges that Neha Rauniyar and Satyendra Ram faced for their inter-caste marriage, the Minister refuted alleged intervention by the State in the case. The government is serious and highly sensitive about the case and it is clear that right against untoucabhility and discrimination is the fundamental right of the citizens guaranteed by the Constitution.
He further said his alleged role against such inter-caste marriage is underestimating of his life, his values and ideologies. Following the incident, the Dalit desk has been already established at the Nepal Police Headquarters and this will be extended to all the 77 districts.
Similarly, he expressed government’s commitment to taking action usury as per the existing laws.He said complaints regarding the usury registered in the district- based police offices are under investigation and will be sorted out soon, ensuring justice to the victims.
So far, 5200 complaints registered in the Commission formed to deal with the issues have been settled. He added that a zero tolerance has been implemented against the trans-border smuggling and an investigative committee under the coordination of Kaski’s Chief District Officer has been formed regarding the explosion of balloons during the inauguration of the Pokhara Visit Year- 2025 recently.
Stating that the government is very much serious about cases of women violence, he said the government is working to address cases of VAW, with the guarantee of justice to the victims. #nepal #political #rss
