Government releases Rs one billion for earthquake victims



Kathmandu, Dec 18: The government has released one billion rupees for the construction of temporary housing for the earthquake victims of Jajarkot and Rukum district.

According to the Nepal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), out of the amount released by the Ministry of Finance, Rs 93 crore has been sent to the relevant districts today.

Anil Pokharel, the chief executive officer of the authority, said, “Ministry of Finance disbursed Rs. 1 billion on Sunday, and we immediately sent 93 million rupees today to the quake affected districts. We have sent the amount according to the priority of the government for the affected.”

He informed that the Authority has tried to disburse the amount as quickly as possible. He also said that the money collected in the fund was sent earlier, but now the money received from the Ministry of Finance has been sent to the district.

According to him, this amount is the first to be withdrawn from the treasury. The decision of the Council of Ministers on Kartik 27 decided to send Rs. 10 billion. Under this, Ministry of Finance has disbursed one billion rupees for earthquake victims.

Pokharel, the executive head of the authority, said that the Authority has sent Rs 54 crore to Jajarkot, Rs 34 crore to Rukum West and Rs 5 crore to Salyan district. Earlier, the Authority had sent Rs 1.41 billion for the construction of temporary housing.

According to the latest statistics, 60,337 beneficiaries have been identified so far. A total of 15,000 contracts have been signed and 4,364 houses have been built. It is said that the order of house construction and contracts are increasing daily.
