Kathmandu, March 15: The government has removed the two-year provision of work permit to be taken during foreign employment. According to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, this arrangement has been removed from the Prime Minister’s level decision.

From now on, there is a provision for granting work permits for the same period based on the work permit obtained from the destination country/work agreement between the employer and the worker. Previously, when giving work permit for foreign employment, two years of work permit was given to everyone rather than the labor agreement between the employer and the worker and the duration of the work permit/agreement obtained from the destination country.

When the work permit was issued only for a certain period, the worker had to return to Nepal between the work period and the visa period due to the work permit.

The spokesperson of the ministry, Danduraj Ghimire, informed that the government has also arranged to issue labor permits again through the Nepali diplomatic mission in the destination country. In Rule 17 (c) of the Foreign Employment Regulations, 2064, there is again a provision for labor approval.

Due to the fact that the system was not implemented effectively, the Nepali workers working abroad suffered a lot, had to come back to Nepal to get re-approval, and in case of death due to fate when there was no re-approval, they could not get the relief, rescue, etc.
