Kathmandu, Feb 6: The Ministry of Health and Population is scheduled to launch a nationwide cervical cancer vaccination campaign for school-aged girls beginning this Sunday. The campaign will involve the administration of vaccines against the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a leading cause of cervical cancer.
According Child Health and Immunization Section at the Ministry, the vaccination drive will primarily target girls studying in Grade 6, as well as out-of-school girls aged 10 years. The nationwide campaign will continue until February 27.
The vaccination will be administered at respective schools and designated health facilities. Health workers deployed for the campaign have already received the required training to ensure the safe and effective delivery of vaccines.
It further stated that girls who missed the HPV vaccination during last year’s campaign will also be included. This group comprises students from Grades 7 to 10 and out-of-school adolescent girls aged between 11 and 14 years.
The Ministry has informed that the vaccines have been distributed from provincial offices to the concerned district offices. An estimated 350,000 girls are expected to be vaccinated during the campaign.
The vaccination programme is being implemented with medical assistance from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (Gavi), according to the Ministry. #nepal #HPV #vaccines
