Gyalpo Lhosar greetings from President, Vice-President, Prime Minister

Kathmandu, Feb 28: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that the festivals like Gyalpo Lhosar have contributed to maintain unity, cultural solidarity, tolerance, goodwill and brotherhood among Nepalis.

In a message today on the occasion of Sherpa community’s Gyalpo Lhosar, the President has wished for happiness, peace and prosperity to all Nepalis at home and abroad.

President Paudel has expressed confidence that this festival would help to further strengthen our broader national unity.

The festival is observed as the New Year by the Sherpa community who primarily reside in the mountainous region of Nepal. The festival that falls on the Shukla Pratipada in the Nepali month of Falgun is also celebrated by Mahayan Buddhists as their New Year.

On the occasion, people of the Sherpa community clean up their houses and villages, sources/spring of water and flutter new prayers flag on the roof of their houses.

Furthermore, they cook delicacies such as Guthuk and Khapse and exchange best wishes with each other to welcome the New Year.

President Paudel has wished that may this festival inspire all Nepali to be united towards building a socially and economically prosperous country.

Likewise, Vice-President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has said that this festival helps in strengthening mutual affection, brotherhood, goodwill and unity in the entire society. In his greetings message on Gyalpo Lhosar, the Vice President has said that such festivals should be considered as the opportunities to maintain tolerance, unity, understanding, friendship and cooperation in the society.

Wishing for happiness, peace, prosperity and good health to the members of the Sherpa community at home and abroad, Vice President Yadav such festivals are crucial in deepening mutual reconciliation and affection also due to the meetings among families and friends.

Similarly, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended greetings to all those celebrating the festival of Gyalpo Lhosar. “The Sherpa community residing in Nepal’s high hills observe Gyalpo Lhosar today as their main festival. Even the Bhote community in Sikkim and Bhutan celebrate Gyalpo Lhosar. Greetings to all on the occasion of Gyalpo Lhosar,” the PM stated in his social media post. “Happy Lhosar to all,” PM Oli greeted by sharing a Facebook post.

Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that we have the harmonious tradition of respecting every festival celebrating in the country. In his message on the occasion of the Gyalpo Lhosar today, the NC President said that different ethnic communities have their own unique traditions, custom and festivals adding that Gyalpo Lhosar of the Sherpa community is one of the important festivals of this community living in the country’s northern Himalayan region.

Saying that Nepal is a multiethnic, multicultural, multilingual and multi-religious country, President Deuba has extended best wishes to all Nepalis for their happiness, peace and prosperity on the occasion of Gyalpo Lhosar (New Year). #Gyalpo #nepal #Lhosar
