Hari Krishna Karki recommended as Chief Justice

Kathmandu, May 8: A meeting of the Constitutional Council held this evening has decided to recommend Acting Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (SC).

A meeting of the Council held at the Prime Minister’s official residence unanimously recommended Karki’s name for the CJ, National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina confirmed.

The meeting presided over by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ was attended by Speaker of House of Representatives (HoR) Devraj Ghimire, NA Chairman Timilsina, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dhanraj Gurung, main opposition CPN (UML)’s Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Deputy Speaker of HoR Indira Ranamagar.

Meanwhile, Nepal Bar Associatiion, the umbrella organization of Nepali lawyers, has repeatedly demanded to fulfill the vacant Chief Justice post. Even, the Bar officials met with the Prime Minister and requested him to speed up the process of appointing the Chief Justice.
