Gandaki, Feb 13: Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, has said that a strategy is warranted to prevent citizens from catching diseases.
Inaugurating a free health screening facility for noncommunicable disease launched by the Ministry for a month today in Pokhara, the Minister expressed his concern over an increasing number of patients in the country. “If this graph continues, the expected results in the health sector would remain unmet.”
“It is warranted to implement a strategy to prevent citizens from illness,” he said, adding that the campaign aims to promote the government’s policy for a preventive approach against diseases. As he said, the cases of diabetes and hypertension are rising and the campaign is expected to address the situation.
The campaign will continue till March 13.
According to Ministry Spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki, people above 30 will be provided free tests for diabetes, hypertension and kidney-related issues with the measurements of body weight and height.
The services are available in health institutions at the local levels. Meanwhile, speaking in a programme to launch the month-long free health screening campaign in Kathmandu today, Health Secretary Dr Roshan Pokharel underscored the need of regular health checkup to prevent the noncommunicable diseases.
The programme was organised by the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD). On the occasion, he said cases of noncommunicable diseases or the so-called ‘lifestyle diseases’ were found increasing in the country.
According to him, the Ministry is conducting the screening for noncommunicable diseases as a regular programme and the local governments should carry forward this programme with added importance.
