Kathmandu, Feb 21: The Ministry of Health and Population is to conduct video briefing of its activities regularly every Friday, beginning from today.
Spokesperson of the Ministry, Dr Prakash Budhathoki, said the ministry would brief about policy-level decisions, activities and the information of health sector conducted in a week at 1:30 pm every Friday.
In course of media briefing today, he shared, “We are going to hold video briefing with an objective of providing information about policy level decisions as well as significant notices and information related to health to general people and stakeholders in a smooth manner.”
Earlier, the ministry had conducted video briefing regularly during COVID-19 pandemic. The ministry has now been providing information and notice through social networking sites except press release.
Spokesperson Budhathoki mentioned that essential medicines used to treat childhood cancer were received on Thursday and it was handed over to Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital, Kanti Children’s Hospital, Patan Academy of Health Sciences and Bharatpur Cancer Hospital.
In the media briefing, he said 92 per cent of the total targeted number of girls received HPV vaccine against cervical cancer in the campaign launched on February 4-18. A total of 1.435 million girls—girl students from class 6-10 and girls between 10-14 years, who are out of school, received the HPV vaccine, Budhathoki stated.
It was shared during the briefing that the vaccination campaign was hampered due to snowfall in Manang, Mustang, Dolpa and Humla, the districts in the mountainous region, and it will be conducted in these districts around March 12 and 13.
According to the Ministry, those who missed in the campaign this time can visit the health facility convenient to them and get vaccinated.
Dr Budhathoki said during the media briefing that 92,273 women of the 30 to 49 age group underwent screening for cervical cancer as of the middle of the current fiscal year. According to him, 60,973 women underwent cancer screening through VIA method, 9927 women through HPV DNA method, 21,409 women through Pap smear method.
Ministry spokesperson Dr Budhathoki said the mass drug administration against elephantiasis is under way in Banke district and it will run for a month.#nepal #health #rss
