Kathmandu, June 18: Heavy rainfall has been recorded in various parts of the country at the same time as a sharp rise in temperatures across the Tarai region, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

In the last 24 hours, heavy rainfall occurred in Gorkha, Morang, Sunsari and Jhapa. The recorded rainfall includes 71.8 mm in Gorkha, 61.8 mm in Morang, 51.4 mm in Sunsari, and 71.2 mm in Jhapa. Jhapa alone recorded more than 103 mm of rainfall on Tuesday, according to officials.

Despite heavy rainfall in some districts, temperatures have continued to rise in many parts of the country, said the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. The department noted that while some areas experienced intense rain, heat conditions persisted elsewhere.

According to latest readings, temperatures have reached extreme levels in several Tarai districts. Bhairahawa recorded 41.5°C, while Nepalgunj reached 40.4°C. Dhangadhi recorded 38.8°C, with rising temperatures also reported in other districts. The temperature in Kathmandu rose to 31.3°C.

According to Information Officer Dinakar Kayastha, hot-day conditions are likely today in Dhangadhi, Birendranagar, Nepalgunj, Ghorahi, Bhairahawa and Simara.

Meteorologists said the weather pattern is being influenced by a western low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere, along with local and eastern winds affecting different parts of Nepal.

The Department added that the Himalayan and hilly regions will generally remain cloudy, while parts of Koshi and Madhesh provinces will see partly cloudy conditions in the Tarai areas. #nepal
